Ozark Foothills Community Planner

Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Please feel free to reach out directly to the program contact listed. This project will focus on the counties of Wayne, Ripley, Reynolds, and Carter in the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission Economic Development District (EDD) region of Missouri. The Ozark Foothills EDD partners with the U.S. Economic Development Administration to provide region-wide strategic economic development planning assistance. The VISTA will provide disaster recovery assistance through disaster mitigation planning and resiliency activities, the implementation of economic revitalization strategies, and the collection of data about current and future economic development needs. During the member’s period of service, they will help communities with activities such as implementation of 911 addressing in the counties of Carter, Ripley, and Wayne, creating plans for brownfield sites for each of the five counties, and assisting the agency's planner with developing resiliency planning for the four counties. Finally, educating the counties on possible EDA grants will be an effort for the VISTA.

Member Duties : The VISTA will implement 911 addressing in the counties of Carter, Ripley, and Wayne. 911 addressing for residents and businesses will ensure efficient emergency response in the event of man made or natural disasters, and enable the counties to return to pre-disaster conditions quickly. The member will use geographic information systems (GIS) data to create and assign 911 addressing to residents in Carter, Ripley, and Wayne and assist county governments with naming new roads that will provide emergency responders with a descriptive location of area residents and informing residents of such revisions. The member will also work with city officials in all four counties to identify areas that are potential sites for brownfields remediation. Meeting will be held with community leaders, public officials, and the business community to identify and inventory potential brownfields structures that are prime for business development.
