Harvest VISTA Lead

Harvest VISTA, a program of Harvest Against Hunger (formerly known as Rotary First Harvest), acts as a program incubator and utilizes a team of VISTAs to work with farmers and hunger relief organizations in their communities to build sustainable gleaning and produce recovery programs. The Harvest VISTA program started as a pilot project in Washington State in 2009, and due to its success, expanded in 2016 to include several VISTA members nationally (currently CA, AZ, UT, and GA). Harvest VISTA members coordinate volunteer groups to glean and harvest produce, find creative solutions to issues and challenges related to supply chain management, like the transportation and distribution of gleaned produce. All gleaned produce, which is often nutritionally dense and locally grown, is distributed to food insecure populations through our food bank partners. Join the Harvest VISTA program to support the team of 13 VISTA members across the country as they tackle food insecurity and grow systems and partnerships to get more fresh produce to the food insecure. Your previous experience as a VISTA, AmeriCorps member, or Peace Corps Volunteer will give you understanding and empathy as you support the personal and professional development of Harvest VISTAs across the country. You will be based in Seattle, WA at Harvest Against Hunger’s office. *Only apply if you have served a full term as either an AmeriCorps or Peace Corps volunteer.

Member Duties : The Harvest VISTA Leader will work closely with the Program Director and site supervisors to recruit, interview, and select VISTA members. The VISTA Leader will then work with members to provide training, resources, and support. Communication is key to the success of a program that spans seven states, and the VISTA Leader will maintain regular contact with members via email and phone. The Leader will help members to reach their target performance measures, support the development of systems to track and collect data for program reporting and assessment, and will send them professional development opportunities as they arise. The Leader will also work with members to create gleaning best practices articles for Harvest Against Hunger’s Produce Recovery Resource Guide, and then post those articles to the online resource website. The Leader will also develop, expand, and create a plan for the Harvest VISTA blog and social media presence.
