Virginia Service and Conservation Corps - 1200 Hour Program
 
 
 
Join the Virginia Service and Conservation Corps(VSCC) and be on the frontlines of conservation in Virginia State Parks. The VSCC has opportunities to serve in all Virginia state parks while providing you with the skills necessary to pursue a career in the conservation field. We’re looking for members that are willing to learn and comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. In addition, you should be a self starter and be able to communicate effectively with park staff and guests. Benefits of serving in the VSCC may include First Aid/CPR/AED training, Fire Training, Pesticide Application Certification, Sawyer Training, and more! If members are not provided with park housing, they will receive a housing stipend to assist with the cost of living expenses. For 1200 hour members, the term of service will be January 12, 2023-September 15, 2023. Members will receive a living allowance of $12,000 over their course of service. After completing their required service hours, members will be eligible to receive an education award. The amount of the education award for 2022 is $4,546.50. 1200 hour members will be expected to serve 37.5-40 hours a week during their term of service.

Member Duties : In these positions, members learn all about the management of natural resources in Virginia State Parks, and participate in controlled burns, invasive species removal, monitor and build habitats, and mark park boundaries. Members will serve on three person resource management crews in one of the six Virginia State Parks Districts. Members will work closely with Resource Management Specialists and Resource Management Assistants to complete a variety of projects during their term of service. Members will be responsible for submitting time sheets and monthly reports online; conducting themselves professionally at all times; serving outdoors for long hours in any weather condition; occasionally traveling overnight and serving weekend and holiday shifts as scheduled.
