Virginia Service and Conservation Corps - 1200 Hour Program

Join the Virginia Service and Conservation Corps(VSCC) and be on the frontlines of conservation in Virginia State Parks. The VSCC has opportunities to serve in all Virginia state parks while providing you with the skills necessary to pursue a career in the conservation field. With 40 State parks the service location options are endless. If you’re seeking an urban park setting, we have parks located near many Virginia cities. Interested in a rural park setting? We have options for that as well! Want to work in a park on the water? We’ve got a place for you too! Members will have the opportunity to serve in one of three 1200 hour positions. We have our popular Resource Management positions. In these positions, members learn all about the management of natural resources in Virginia State Parks, and participate in controlled burns, invasive species removal, monitor and build habitats, and mark park boundaries. New this year are park specific Trail Crews. Members will serve on a team of three doing trail work, controlled burns, invasive species removal, and trail work days with volunteers. Our final position option is our Individual Placement position. Members will serve in parks helping with trail updates, invasive species removal, environmental education/interpretation, work with volunteers, and participate in community outreach. We’re looking for members that are willing to learn and comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. In addition, you should be a self starter and be able to communicate effectively with park staff and guests. Benefits of serving in the VSCC may include First Aid/CPR/AED training, Fire Training, Pesticide Application Certification, Sawyer Training, and Certified Interpretive Guide Training. In addition, members will have the opportunity to participate in monthly all program calls as well as Life After AmeriCorps training that includes a resume workshop and mock interview with Virginia State Parks staff.
