Plant It Forward Community Engagement VISTA

Plant It Forward provides farmer training, mentorship, and on-farm technical assistance to a current network of 8 urban farms. Plant It Forward advocates for bio-intensive, sustainable farming practices, best suited to the conditions of farming in Houston. Plant It Forward also provides its farmers access to markets, including Farm Share subscriptions, Farmers Markets, Farm Stands, and Chef/Restaurant Sales. The Plant It Forward Americorps Farms Programs VISTA will build organizational capacity to engage and manage volunteers, thereby bringing attention to the unmet needs of Houston’s refugee and immigrant individuals, families, and communities. The VISTA will generate support and enhance community engagement for Plant It Forward’s programs which create opportunities for clients to achieve their goals for self-sufficiency and well-being. The VISTA will implement several new volunteer initiatives, and will be responsible for implementing a planned overhaul of the current volunteer management system. The VISTA will also provide programmatic support to the Farm Programs Manager by assisting with Farmer Education efforts and creating a new Food Safety Plan. The VISTA will serve as a brand ambassador at community events and assist in the planning of donor and customer-facing events.
