E3.20 Resilience VISTA Northern Minnesota–Various Positions

The Ecolibrium3 VISTA Corps, based out of Duluth, MN, is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals willing to invest a year of service starting August 2020 to address some of the most pressing poverty-related challenges faced by communities in northern Minnesota. The Northland area encompasses St. Louis County, the City of Duluth, the scenic North Shore of Lake Superior, the Iron Range, and surrounding communities. Duluth itself has a population of 86,000 people, is located at the tip of the biggest freshwater lakes in the world, boasts of its green space and access to the outdoors, and has an up-and-coming local economy. It also has a life expectancy difference of over 20 years between some Census tracts, a graduation rate gap between students from high schools located on separate sides of the city, and chilly winters that takes a toll on the energy costs of some citizens with the lowest income levels. The 2020 cohort will have twenty-four members with additional focus on closing the opportunity gap experienced by children in poverty, expanding partnerships with the Fond du Lac Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa, using design thinking to define the Lincoln Park Innovation Zone, creating sustainable energy solutions for low income families, and developing strategies for increasing diversity and equity in the local economy. The Ecolibrium3 VISTA Corps uses its depth of community knowledge to identify which levers may produce the largest impact on reducing poverty and building the capacity of local organizations to implement poverty-related solutions.
