UWCCR Woodland Community Impact Coordinator VISTA

United Way California Capital Region (UWCCR) has kicked off our most ambitious project in our 90 year history - a new approach to ending poverty and equipping schools with resources to be a ground-level force for children's success. With your help, the Square One Project will change the lives of a whole generation of kids in our community. This is our 20 year promise to significantly increase the number of local kids who graduate from high school ready for success in college or career. For the next 20 years, all of our work will focus on keeping kids in school and on track, setting high expectations, and ensuring they have strong support. Our programs in Woodland include Kindercamp, a 4 week summer program for incoming kindergartners who have not been to preschool, Imagination Library Program, a program that sends a book every month to eligible children in Yolo County until they are 5 years old, and Read to Succeed, a program in which community volunteers work with students in the classroom on targeted reading skills. As a result of these programs, kids are ready to start school and stay on track to graduate.
