Grow Nashua Community Outreach Coordination VISTA
All of the program participants served by Grow Nashua are low income families, and many are New Americans with appetites to work hard to provide a better life for the next generation. 13.1% of families in Nashua live below the national poverty level, with most living in census tracts that also experience the highest levels of social vulnerability; with limited access to transportation, health insurance, and food access. Grow Nashua purposefully builds community gardens, trains gardeners, and empowers neighborhood leaders to join in on our initiatives in order to help us better understand how to strengthen our social fabric as an urban community. In doing so, we are providing long term solutions to the fight against hunger. Additionally, we create and implement programs at Title I schools through our Grow Education program, and partner with the NH Food Bank to host free cooking courses for economically marginalized parents.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will assist with resource acquisition by updating our annual fundraising plan, researching and writing grants, contributing to land acquisition efforts, developing and implementing a Grow Nashua membership program taking the lead in organizing a special annual event, and recruiting and managing a fundraising committee. Assist in growing our volunteer program. Create and refine a community outreach framework that includes written publications, event trainings, presentations to organizations and a social media plan that would assist in getting our programs out to the public. The VISTA will develop SOPs to ensure organizational memory to assist in the sustainability of our programming! Grow Nashua currently serves residents of a recovery Facility in downtown Nashua through one of our community gardens, and one of our long-term organizational goals is to build additional partnerships and programming to serve more of our recovering community members including veterans.
