*Goodwill VISTA* Immigrant Welcome Center, Portland

Our mission is to serve as a hub for collaboration that strengthens the immigrant community through language acquisition, economic integration and civic engagement. Our programs are: · The iEnglish Project - A Digital Language Literacy program - English proficiency is the most significant barrier to the immigrants’ integration into the social, economic, and civic fabrics of the U.S society. A digital language literacy program is an innovative model that integrates English language learning with technology, enabling a tailored curriculum and a self-paced learning platform. · Immigrant Business Hub: Entrepreneurship is a key component of economic empowerment. This program will harness local and regional economic development initiatives in the Greater Portland area to streamline business training, facilitate technical support and provide solutions to lending that impact immigrant-led and minority-owned businesses. · Citizenship & Civic Engagement Initiative: With a strong belief that we cannot build an inclusive economy without an inclusive democracy, the IWC is committed to a robust and collaborative citizenship and civic engagement campaign targeting all immigrant communities in Maine. · Co-Working Space: This aspect of the IWC provides an aspirational working space to be shared with aligned community stakeholders and supplements and helps build the capacity and capital of burgeoning immigrant initiatives and organizations. The IWC’s motto is the Power of WE. We believe that positive impact can be achieved through collaboration with other organizations & individual partners. Some of our partner organizations include: HopeActs, Learning Works, Mano en Mano, Maine Conservation Alliance, and Maine League of Women voters to name a few. We rely on an advisory committee for each of our programs, volunteer advisory committee members whose expertise is helping in shaping and ensuring the success of each of our programs.
