Chicago HOPES for Kids- Part Time Member

Chicago HOPES for Kids provides shelter-based academic support for children in Chicago's homeless and domestic violence shelters. We run after school programming for both Kindergarten - 5th grade students 2 hours a day Monday - Thursday, and a Middle School program for 6th-8th graders two hours a day two days a week. Both programs are volunteer based and consist of three major components; homework help, individual reading support, and enrichment activities. Every volunteer works one-on-one or in a small group with children, allowing for a focus not just on individual academic needs but also Social Emotional Learning skills . Our Fall Program begins in October and runs through mid-December; the winter/spring program begins in February and runs through mid-May; the summer program begins late June and runs through the first week of August. All programs are coordinated out of our central office housed in the Chicago Literacy Alliance’s Literacenter, and at each shelter, Site Coordinators manage the program and work with volunteers to help them provide quality academic support to the children. Chicago HOPES after-school programs are held at 10 shelter sites throughout Chicago.
