Hardy County Convention and Visitor's Bureau Community VISTA

The Hardy County Convention & Visitors Bureau (HCCVB) works tirelessly to promote awareness, visibility and the uniqueness of Hardy County as a travel destination and to establish and sustain community partnerships that strengthen Hardy County’s tourism industry. They have partnered with the county seat of Moorefield to bring focused efforts to revitalize the town. Moorefield was originally chartered in 1777 and is located at the confluence of the South Branch and the South Fork of the Potomac River, two rivers that have greatly influenced the economy and history of the Town. The Town and HCCVB are encouraging advancement of a sustainable economy and enhancing our quality of life while paying homage to our heritage and culture. The Town, numerous residents, and business owners have been actively participating in The Hub's Cultivate WV program to begin a revitalization process. Attending meetings, working with the community, writing grants, and bringing together stakeholders to engage in various community discussions, the critical need for the Town’s renaissance has been a rallying cry for all those involved. Hardy County, in its entirety, will benefit from this revitalization effort: the visitors who come to Hardy County to share in our historical, cultural and recreational assets; the businesses that will locate downtown serving their fellow residents and visitors; the diverse residents who will learn about opportunities that exist in the place in which they live; those who choose to volunteer and become part of the heritage, the cultural and hospitality network; those whose voices have not been heard before and/or who can provide new and vigorous ideas for creating a robust economy. This speaks only of a portion of the many who will gain from the work now underway.

Member Duties : This position's start date is contingent upon our finding the right candidate. The HCCVB Community VISTA will support the CVB and Moorefield residents in the current community projects, initiated under the WV Community Development Hub's Cultivate WV revitalization program. This includes attending meetings to get acquainted with community teams, advertising plans and successes in the newspaper, researching examples of successful revitalization projects in other towns, and more. In addition, the VISTA will be responsible for researching funding sources, engaging partners and individuals within a stakeholder network, and tracking progress for funding received and project successes. The Higgins House restoration project will be a major facet of the VISTA project. This will involve research, assisting in the development and implementation of a fundraising plan, community engagement, and project assessment, all with support from the HCCVB.
