Appalachian SCPVP: Grundy Safe Communities Youth Outreach

Join our team of VISTAs on the South Cumberland Plateau. Our positions serve a variety of community organizations with grant writing, fundraising, community organizing, volunteer recruitment, and developing and implementing systems that build an organization's capacity to operate more effectively. Each of our positions offers the unique opportunity to work in a rural, historic, and economically depressed region of Tennessee. Through a partnership with SCCF and University of the South (Sewanee), SCPVP provides training to enhance each VISTA member’s personal and professional development. This VISTA program is team focused, providing group programming, support, and social opportunities for each VISTA. Make a difference! Member Duties : The Youth Coalition Development VISTA will build the capacity of Grundy Safe Communities Coalition, a youth-led coalition for drug prevention in the rural Appalachian community of Grundy County, TN. This person will mobilize youth to be leaders in drug prevention in their community, promoting healthy futures to move the next generation out of poverty. Areas of focus include alcohol and tobacco prevention for individuals under age 25 and increasing health literacy of youth in Grundy Co., including providing information and resources around the realities and dangers of the current opioid epidemic. Service encompasses volunteer recruitment to gain an adult coalition leader and outreach efforts to gain additional youth members. Service member will develop opioid prevention programming, build systems for the coalition to meet state grant requirements for reporting by establishing a robust system for data management and collection, build connections with community partners.
