ConnectHome VISTA 2019: Grand Forks

The ConnectHome VISTA program, facilitated by Serve New York, collaborates with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to close the digital divide, and extend affordable internet access to low-income families throughout the nation. AmeriCorps VISTA members working with ConnectHome build capacity in organizations, government agencies, and institutions focusing on expanding educational opportunities and ensuring economic opportunity. Members work behind-the-scenes at organizations to build capacity, create sustainability, and indirectly serve the organization and their clients. Typical VISTA responsibilities include: grant writing, community outreach, fund development, curriculum building, creating partnerships, program development and execution. While serving, members receive support from the VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. The support includes monthly training, a social network of fellow members, and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA member will engage with local businesses and organizations to develop partnerships to provide a source for used computers to refurbish and distribute to the GFHA’s HUD assisted households and community members in need. The Americorps VISTA member will also develop a process for distribution of the devices and procedures for refurbishing. The GFHA is dedicated to providing safe, affordable, housing for all residents of Grand Forks County. Over the past twenty years our mission has expanded to include a Family Self-Sufficiency program, resident service coordination, creation of Grand Forks Community Land Trust, and our most recent efforts to bring a Housing First - Permanent Supportive Housing facility to Grand Forks with LaGrave on First. the GFHA is focused on: digital device access, broadband access, and digital literacy training.
