UWCCR - HEC West Sacramento Housing Program
 
 
 
In this program, the Health Education Council VISTA Member will help develop and build a robust network of resources, programs, and services to support individuals and families living in West Sacramento low-income multi-unit housing communities. The goal of this program is to improve health, social support and connection, and food access by addressing three key components: 1) availability and access to community resources; 2) education around nutrition, financial literacy, food access, mental health and other topics; and 3) increased community social support and connection among residents in the West Sacramento Housing communities. The VISTA Member will work closely with Health Education Council staff to assess the community's strengths and needs, develop and coordinate services, increase access to resources, and promote programs to residents.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA member will work closely with Health Education Council (HEC) staff and will conduct the following projects: 1. Develop an understanding of community needs and assets through a community assessment, and share these findings with HEC staff and West Sacramento property managers. The VISTA Member will also build relationships with residents and identify potential resident champions. 2. Increase access of resources and services to residents of the West Sacramento housing communities by thoughtfully designing, coordinating, and implementing programs and services. VISTA Member will also establish new partnerships with community-based organizations and services in West Sacramento and Yolo County to bring these resources to residents. 3. Expand residents’ awareness of HEC programs and services, and increase participation and retention rates in programs and services by developing a strategic outreach and promotion plan.
