Tacoma Boat Builders Youth Program Partner

Youth programs at Tacoma Boat Builders in Tacoma, Washington serve youth who are are living in high-risk or adverse environments. The TBB mission is to create transformational opportunities for marginalized and under-served youth in Pierce County through boat building, woodworking, and positive mentorship. Youth need opportunities that meet them where they are, take them seriously, and work with them to identify and achieve their goals. Our AmeriCorps member will form part of a team aiming to create something new and different in our community. Together we will pilot edgy and creative solutions to punch more holes in the school-to-jail pipeline. TCBB offers trauma informed (TIA) positive youth development (PYD) programming focused on strengthening natural talents, developing manual competencies and essential life skills. Working with TBB staff our AmeriCorps members will engage with justice-involved and other under-resourced youth as mentors and advocates who work as partners with the youth in identifying and achieving goals for successfully exiting the school-to-jail pipeline.

Member Duties : Americorps members will bring a new level of encouragement and support to youth by developing secondary programming for alumni youth focused on completing their secondary level education, developing work place skills, and exploring maritime and other trades based work opportunities in the Tacoma area.
