AmeriCorps Parents as Teachers program is an evidence-based program that works with families who are expecting a child or if they have a child (or children) between birth and the age of 6 years old. AmeriCorps Parent educators will educate parents (or caregivers) to help them be their first and best influential teacher to their child. These educational sessions will be delivered in the family's home. Each home visit will discuss the child's development and milestones; developmental topics such as: health, sleep, transition & routines in the home, discipline, attachment, nutrition, healthy births, and safety; and have a discussion about the family's well-being. The ESSENTIAL FUNCTION OF AmeriCorps PAT Parent educator is as follows: Preparing for and conducting weekly, bi-weekly and monthly personal visits as required •Planning and facilitating at least two (2) group connections per program year •Completing developmental screenings on children enrolled in the program •Identifying family needs and making referrals to community resources Activities include: •Reporting regularly to Site Supervisor and Program Coordinator in a timely manner •Complete and submitting timesheets and leave requests on a regular basis •Contribute to recruiting families in the PAT program, promotion and seek in-kind donations for relevant activities •Serve 20% families from Service Site and surround area •Implement the Parents as Teachers Curriculum to at least 15 - 18 families •Collect quality and quantity date and maintain documentation of every home visit, assessment and any additional documentation for recordkeeping purposes.

Member Duties : Must complete at least 1700 hours within the program year. Must be available days, evenings & weekends as needed. •Participates in AmeriCorps activities and professional development: engage in program-related activities •Completes the required number of hours of trainings, workshops, conferences REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Must be a U.S. Citizen •Must have excellent computer skills, i.e. web browsing, email, & Microsoft •Must maintain a valid driver’s license, insurance & vehicle •Must have a minimum of two years’ previous supervised experience working or volunteering with young children &/or families *Bilingual (Engl/Span) & Associates Degree or 60 college hours is preferred SKILLS AND DEMONSTRATED ABILITIES •Strong leadership, ability to work effectively individually & in a team •Consistent & verbal/ written communication skills, interpersonal skills •Dependable time management & excellent organization skills •Reliable written & verbal record-keeping, documenting, & reporting skills
