Feast Farm Flood Resilience Coord. - Montpelier Parks/VHCB
 
 
 
The Feast Farm is a municipal program that grows food for food-insecure folks in the capital city! Spend a season learning about starting a no-till farm, flood recovery and flood plain restoration, volunteer coordination and leadership for disaster relief efforts, and how to build community resilience through service. Help clean up and recover the old farm site so that the river can reclaim the flood plain again. You’ll gain practical skills and learn what it takes to recover a disaster site and transition an old golf course to a productive farm. You’ll also gain experience leading volunteers and other visiting groups. No experience is required in the above fields, only a willingness to learn and an ability to value community and collaborate with others. Montpelier Parks & Trees mission is to steward Montpelier’s Parks, Trees, and Natural Areas for the enjoyment and health of all. The Feast Farm initiative is a collaboration between the Parks & Trees Department, the Recreation Department, and the Montpelier Senior Activity Center, with a purpose to grow, process, and distribute food to food-insecure folks and older adults. With staff supervision, focus will be on ensuring the complete recovery from the damages and losses sustained in the July 2023 flood. Position begins March 18th, 2024 and ends August 30th, 2024 This position is Half Time: Member will receive a living allowance of $13,765 (pre-tax), a monthly housing allowance of $300, for a total compensation of $15,565 (~$17.00 per hour) for the 6-month term. Members receive an education award of $3,447.50 upon successful completion of service. Member Duties : • Perform physical service outside in all types of weather, including farm work and riparian restoration. • Recruit, lead and mentor volunteers and job trainees to support the FEAST initiative. • Assist with planning, preparation and execution of the FEAST initiative needs. • Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps • Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives. • Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities.
