Backside Learning Center Volunteer Coordinator VISTA

The Backside Learning Center’s VISTA Volunteer Coordinator position will work to grow, expand and sustain the invaluable support of community volunteers. Our community has been hit particularly hard by the many rippling effects of the current global pandemic, especially in the area of access to education. The school-aged children served by the BLC are sons and daughters of Spanish-speaking immigrants who work in the equine industry. Parents are working seven-days-a-week, many do not speak fluent English, and typically come from rural areas of Central America and Mexico where access to public education was severely limited. We have had an outpouring of offers for direct support, as our community is well aware of the many challenges our parents face. Our VISTA Volunteer Coordinator will focus on matching community volunteers with kids who need academic assistance either at our community learning hub, at home in person, or virtually. The position will develop systems and processes for volunteer outreach and recruitment, orientation, on-boarding, and developing a consistent communications plan to promote retention and maximize impact. The position will make sure that volunteers have the training and materials needed based on our youth participants’ needs.
