Backside Learning Center Sustainability Project VISTA
Through extensive research, community outreach, and assisting in the implementation of the strategic plan, the position will aim to garner support for a largely invisible but significant population, made up primarily of immigrants, dedicated to an industry which is so vital to the economy and culture of our city and state. BLC programming will continue to expand and strengthen, providing much-needed educational support to both adults and children. As the majority of backside workers have limited formal education and lack a functional understanding of the English language, they are unable to move into higher-paying positions, either within or outside of the industry. The project will seek to expand educational support for adults, while building and strengthening a new family education program which is working to eliminate generational poverty through academic and other support to the children of equine workers.
