Multnomah County Opioid Safety VISTA
 
 
 
This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Multnomah County is the largest county in Oregon and is part of the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area with a regional population of over 2 million. The region has a temperate four season climate with easy access to nature within the Portland City limits and to beaches and mountains barely an hour away by car. The area is served by safe, reliable public transportation and is entertained by nearly continuous arts, music, and cultural events. Multnomah County Health Department strives to assure individuals, families and communities gain greater control of the factors that influence their health, improve the health of diverse communities, and be an adaptive learning organization that serves as an effective and accountable local public health authority and provider of community health services. Member Duties : The VISTA will join a nimble team dedicated to reducing opioid overdoses and improving the quality of life for those suffering from addiction in Multnomah County. The VISTA member will participate in a variety of projects including completing a VISTA project on expanding understanding and policy options for social harms related to opioid misuse such as homelessness and child removal; building capacity for the tricountyopioidsafety.org website; recruiting individuals with lived-experience to join a region opioid safety coalition; and gaining skills in data gathering and visualization for an overdose surveillance system Suggested skills include flexibility, ability to work both as part of a team and independently, written and verbal communication, and comfort with compiling and manipulating small data sets in spreadsheets. The Multnomah County Health Department is dedicated to equity and reduction of health disparities.
