Coos Health and Wellness Breastfeeding & Health Equity VISTA
 
 
 
This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Coos Health & Wellness is the local public health authority for Coos County, Oregon. We conduct a wide array of public health services including communicable diseases prevention, public health emergency preparedness, the Women, Infants and Children program, a nurse home visiting program, reproductive health, breastfeeding promotion, community health projects through the community health improvement plan, environmental health services etc. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Coos Bay is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.

Member Duties : The Maternal Child Health Title V block grant will guide the work of the VISTA. Title V seeks to improve access to quality health care for mothers and children, especially for people with low income and limited availability of care; access to comprehensive prenatal and postnatal care for women, especially low-income and at-risk pregnant women; and increase health assessments and follow-up diagnostic and treatment services, especially for low-income children. The VISTA member will develop strategies that enable Coos Health and Wellness to continue to promote breastfeeding in the community for underserved and low-income community members and families. The VISTA will also develop training for the Coos Health and Wellness team and leadership on key components of health equity and health disparities, and how they can be addressed when providing services to economically disadvantaged members of the community.
