Rural Dynamics - World Trade Center MT

The Montana World Trade Center, a program of The University of Montana, is in need of a VISTA member to increase the visibility of Montana to international investors, highlighting and marketing the overall image of the state, along with identifying firms that plan to create new, high-paying jobs and bring capital investment to rural and Tribal locations. Existing foreign direct investment (FDI), whether in metro areas or in more rural areas of the state, continue to have a rippling effect across our economy. FDI projects in non-metro areas have an average size greater than those in metro areas and as a result, create more jobs, 108 compared to 86 (on average). Because of Montana’s vast rural and Tribal communities, these impacts are more strongly felt and are thus a great option for the state. The enormous geographical area coupled with the low population create unique challenges for finding resources or generating large-scale projects that could be profoundly beneficial to communities across the state, specifically rural and Tribal communities. The VISTA would play a key role in providing event support, capacity building with economic development organizations (EDOs), conduct research relating to gaining new FDI candidates, and maintain the mapping of existing FDI resources throughout the state. The proposed project will serve the entire state of Montana. This is a remote position; applicants may be based anywhere within the state of Montana.
