Outreach VISTA for Greater Minds Initiative (Year 1)
 
 
 
Greater Minds, an initiative of Greater Spokane, Inc, provides adults support as they return to school, finish their degree or certificate. The VISTA Member will help engage individuals who are not currently benefiting from the economic success of the region into Greater Minds so they can realize their full education potential, closing the attainment gap for our target populations who are low-income families earning less than the basic cost of living in Spokane County. The VISTA will asset map community locations and create workshops, outreach and marketing strategies to provide information to engage specific populations; compile comprehensive list of services that enhance navigational support; compile data sources for high demand career fields and corresponding education opportunities offered locally and support grant writing to close achievement gap thus breaking the cycle of poverty. This position is in Eastern Washington, about 20 miles west of Idaho and 110 miles south of the Canadian border. Benefits include a living allowance of $472.22 biweekly. VISTA Members who successfully complete the year receive their choice of either a Segal Education Award (valued at approximately $6,000) or an $1,800 cash stipend. AmeriCorps VISTA is also the only AmeriCorps program where you can earn federal non-competitive eligibility, giving you an edge in the federal hiring process.
