LKC: Urban Scholastic Center Legacy Program Dev. VISTA
According to recent studies, “Wyandotte County’s poverty rate is substantially greater than any other county in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area.” Attainment, provision, and support of education are crucial to the reduction and eradication of poverty. The Urban Scholastic Center seeks to improve Wyandotte students' academic performance, enhance their leadership skills, and equip them to become leaders in the community and the world. The Urban Scholastic Center is a sub-site of the Literacy KC VISTA Program. The Literacy KC VISTA Program seeks to address illiteracy through a concentration on traditional literacy as well as health literacy, financial literacy, and digital literacy. The VISTA members and organizations that participate in the Literacy KC VISTA Program take a holistic, collaborative approach to literacy, building the organizations’ capacity to serve their clients, and addressing poverty in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
