Pyramid Atlantic Art Center: Youth Education and Outreach

Founded in 1981, Pyramid Atlantic is a nonprofit contemporary art center fostering the creative disciplines of papermaking, printmaking, and book arts within a collaborative community. We equip, educate, and exhibit in our historic Hyattsville home. Our facility features a papermaking studio, print shop, letterpress studio, bindery, screenprinting studio/darkroom, 17 private artist studios, and an art gallery that hosts 8 exhibitions per year. Our vision is to create an artistic hub in Hyattsville that inspires and enables local, national, and international artists to create and innovate in our core disciplines; elevates the local arts and small business scene; and enhances the quality of life for artists and neighbors. We value artistic excellence, infrastructure for artists, hands-on experiences, and collaboration. The AmeriCorps VISTA Associate will provide institutional capacity for Pyramid Atlantic while continuing to create in-roads with local schools and other youth organizations to serve K–12 students with quality arts education opportunities. Secondary to growing this youth and outreach programming, the VISTA project will also provide vital internal capacity building by supplementing and developing new resources and processes to streamline efficiency. This includes managing the organization’s growing volunteer program and resources; implementing the final phases for the art collection program and launching its public website; and further integrating the CRM program with other internal data-tracking methods.
