Serve New York VISTA 2019: CEO
 
 
 
Serve New York mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions focused on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all, and creating healthy futures for the residents of NY. The goal of Serve New York is to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Serve New York program has partner organizations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Bath, Ithaca, Geneva, and White Plains. While serving, members receive support from the VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. The support includes monthly training, a social network of fellow members, and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides comprehensive employment services to individuals with recent criminal convictions. CEO’s vision is that anyone with a recent criminal history who wants to work has the support to stay connected to the labor force. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will build CEO’s capacity to lift individuals out of poverty and break the cycle of recidivism. The VISTA member will conduct extensive research and take the lead on drafting content for proposals and letters of inquiry. The VISTA will begin to lay the groundwork for an individual giving campaign. They will work closely with CEO’s Buffalo staff and statewide leadership to capture local data, with the aim of building out a regionalized fund development strategy and promoting city-specific accomplishments and narratives to regional donors. They will also play a key role in cash and in-kind resource development efforts, helping to enhance and build upon the services provided to CEO participants.
