Serve New York VISTA 2019: Young Audiences of WNY

Serve New York mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions focused on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all, and creating healthy futures for the residents of NY. The goal of Serve New York is to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Serve New York program has partner organizations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Bath, Ithaca, Geneva, and White Plains. While serving, members receive support from the VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. The support includes monthly training, a social network of fellow members, and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : Founded in 1962, Young Audiences of Western New York is the leading arts in education organization in the region, with over 70 teaching artists providing in-school and after-school programming in nearly every school, working with teachers to match their curriculum to offer assemblies, workshops, and residencies. Last year we reached close to 70,000 children with our services in schools, libraries, cultural and community centers. The VISTA Artworks Engagement Coordinator will develop and execute engagements with volunteers, teaching artists, educators, schools, community orgs, cultural institutions alongside our staff and board of directors to build a stronger arts in education network in Western New York to serve the youth of the region. The VISTA member will look to find sustaining funding beyond Summer 2020, while expanding the scale and scope of ArtWorks, building our capacity to sustain the growth of the program.
