NYC VISTA: DYCD Civic Engagement Support VISTA
 
 
 
Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs that aim to alleviate the effects of poverty and provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. DYCD supports New York City youth and their families by funding a wide range of high-quality youth and community development programs, including: After School, Community Development, Family Support, Literacy Services, Youth Services, and Youth Workforce Development. In keeping with DYCD’s guiding principles, DYCD promotes civic engagement and open communication to gain input from, inform and empower communities. The civic engagement initiative will support DYCD by ensuring that community members and partners, including funded programs, are equipped to navigate and participate in civic systems successfully.

Member Duties : The VISTA project will encompass DYCD’s overall vision to build the knowledge of CBO staff that provide service to DYCD participants, enhance funded program practices at a systematic level thru intentional interventions such at the civic engagement framework, and ensure sustainable CBO change thru access to resources. Utilizing DYCD’s civic engagement framework which establishes the knowledge needed for New Yorkers to effect change and ultimately alleviate the effects of poverty, the DYCD VISTA project will build the capacity and expertise of CBO funded programs and staff to develop and deliver civic engagement opportunities that promote an end to poverty across communities in NYC. The VISTA project will support funded programs in accessing vital resources related to civic engagement and anti-poverty by creating professional development opportunities, bringing supports to communities in the form of training, forums, and resource shares, and partnerships.
