NYIC VISTA @ South Bronx United

This position is part of the NYIC VISTA program, which is run by the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) and places AmeriCorps VISTAs – referred to as NYIC VISTAs – at nonprofit organizations where they build organizational capacity through community outreach/education, communications, fundraising, program development and/or volunteer management projects. The capacity that they build is then used by their host organizations to advance their work on providing community members with anti-poverty services (e.g., ESL/ESOL, legal, youth, employment/career). NYIC VISTAs are supported by the NYIC with a 4-day training at the beginning of their year of service, a 3-day mid-year training, a 3-day spring training, weekly webinars, monthly check-ins with NYIC staff, and ongoing networking opportunities. During their year of service, NYIC VISTAs are supported with benefits including but not limited to living allowance, healthcare allowance or a health plan, a year-end education award or cash stipend, and more. NYIC VISTA positions are full-time 12-month positions that are scheduled to begin on September 3, 2019. Member Duties : VISTA PLACEMENT SITE: South Bronx United (SBU), www.southbronxunited.org, 594 Grand Concourse #2, The Bronx, NY 10451. SBU uses soccer for social change. SBU aims to help youth build character, teamwork, and leadership so that they can succeed in high school, college, careers, their community and beyond. South Bronx United strives to promote educational achievement, health and wellness, and character development through activities on and off the soccer field, and to unite a diverse group of individuals and an incredibly diverse community toward common positive goals. VISTA ACTIVITIES: The VISTA at SBU will work on volunteer management (e.g., recruitment, training, coordination, recognition) projects. This capacity-building work will support SBU in being able to engage low-income high school students in after-school program services (e.g., tutoring) and other resources which will support them in graduating high school. SERVICE LOCATION: New York, New York. LIVING ALLOWANCE: $20,641.
