Families Moving Forward- Aftercare Programming Associate

Families Moving Forward, located in Durham, NC, is a local non-profit organization with a mission to offer a temporary home to families with children in the crisis of homelessness. We work together to help create a path to stability and self-sufficiency through personalized services and ongoing community support. Families Moving Forward provides emergency shelter to 21 families at a time. Families receive case management support and onsite programming is offered weekly for parents and children during their stay in the shelter, and after they have transitioned into the aftercare program. Aftercare case management is offered to all families once they move into permanent housing for 12 months. The VISTA member will work towards the mission of the organization by creating or expanding services offered. The VISTA member will focus on developing systems, communication processes, partnerships and resources to ensure the sustainability and expansion of the programs and services offered to Families Moving Forward’s current and former guests.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will develop a sustainable plan to provide significantly more programming (vs case management) to our families in the year following their exit into permanent housing. This includes determining best times and frequency for programming, identifying barriers and how to overcome them, doing needs surveys with our guests to identify most important topics, developing appropriate incentives, and tapping into the volunteers and partners (or recruiting new ones) to offer the new programming for Aftercare. The VISTA member will: enhance the aftercare holiday sponsorship program; expand community partnerships to support program needs (space, volunteer support, workshop facilitation); develop Branching OUT graduation program; research funding opportunities to support program needs; develop a leadership program; expand structured weekly aftercare programs for families; create a strategic plan for recruitment and management of the Circles of Support aftercare volunteer program.
