Opportunity Council -DVSAS Prevention & Health Education YR2

Increase the capacity of children, youth and family services at Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services (DVSAS) to support those experiencing or at risk of experiencing violence to stop the cycle of poverty. Those who experience this type of trauma are more likely to experience poverty. We are expanding our children and family services with focus on the 87% of clients with low or very low income. The 2nd year VISTA project will increase capacity by developing and enhancing: (1) Health education programs; (2) Prevention education programs in Whatcom County schools; (3) Child advocacy services at our safe shelter. The VISTA will develop both a sustainable support pathway out of violence and poverty and pathway of prevention for children and youth.
