Opportunity Council - ReUse Works - Job Training Expansion

ReUse Works has a unique mission to provide job training to low-income residents by tapping into the waste stream. This is accomplished through two unique projects: Ragfinery repurposes textiles, and Appliance Depot salvages and sells re-conditioned appliances. We inspire our community to get involved in waste reduction and help provide skills, experience, and confidence for community members to get into the workforce. The goal of this VISTA project is to develop and build capacity for volunteer-supported community programs that increase opportunities for and provide crucial support to our job training participants. This will involve: (1) volunteer program development and outreach/recruitment strategies that increase community engagement and opportunities for soft skill development, mending, repair and creative reuse; (2) documentation of trainee and volunteer tasks, policies, and procedures; (3) an effective social media campaign; (4) expanded databases for partnerships and funding; and (5) a usable cloud-based file storing and sharing system.
