Opportunity Council - LIFRC - Housing & Mental Health Access

This VISTA project is focused on expanding and strengthening affordable rental housing and mental health services for low-income individuals on Lopez Island. This will help break the cycle of poverty by assuring that safe, secure, affordable rental housing and needed mental health services are available. The VISTA member will build capacity for the Lopez Island Family Resource Center through community organizing, networking with county wide stakeholders, facilitating 2 work groups, and developing grassroots innovative solutions. The VISTA member will do research, collect data, report results, and help prepare grants to make this possible. Lopez is the 3rd largest of the San Juan Islands and is accessed by the Washington State Ferries. The San Juan Islands were voted #2 World's Friendliest islands. Lopez is a quiet, peaceful 15-mile long island with 63 miles of shoreline. This is a great project for someone that enjoys a rural lifestyle, community building/networking, and collaborating on innovative solutions.
