Hunger Free America Summer Associates

The Hunger Free America Summer Associate Program aims to create more food secure families and support nutritious food choices. Summer Associate members will support the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and nutrition education programming; improve awareness of nutritious food options at farmers’ markets and the use of SNAP benefits at farmers’ markets; and raise awareness of and eliminate barriers to SNAP and other food/nutrition-access services. We’re looking for individuals to help us support the day-to-day operations of the Jamestown YMCA Food Service Program, including preparing and distributing meals to participants, aiding in meal counts and program reporting, and assisting in menu planning to ensure compliance with USDA regulations. Summer Associates will also work to increase the capacity and sustainability of the Summer Food Service Program to serve more participants, including research on and outreach in low-participating neighborhoods. They will distribute educational materials and literature on the Summer Food Service Program in high-poverty neighborhoods and encourage participation in the program. The ideal candidate will be interested in poverty and hunger issues, have experience working with diverse communities, be flexible and willing to work on all kinds of projects, able to work independently and as a member of a team, reliable, and have a good work ethic, organizational and communications skills. This is a short-term, 8-week, full-time position beginning June 23rd, 2019 and ending August 16th, 2019. You are expected to be available for the needs of your community and project at all times. Summer Associates may be able to have a part-time job outside of service hours; however, they will discuss this with their supervisor prior to starting their position.
