Community Resource Catalyst Project

St. Francis Neighborhood Center (SFNC) is a community center in West Baltimore. Our mission is committed to ending generational poverty through education, inspiring self-esteem, self-improvement, and strengthening connections to the community. SFNC’s presence has served as a resource and catalyst for improving the lives of those in Reservoir Hill and making Baltimore a better place since 1963. Our Center is undergoing renovations and an expansion. This expansion will provide the community with four times more space, allowing for more programs and resources. The Community Resource Catalyst Project will survey neighbors and connect with organizations to bring in desired programs and resources. The VISTA will create an effective and easy way for community members and organizations to connect, gather resources and request space at SFNC. Implementing this project will provide tools and resources for individuals and families living below the poverty line. It will also increase community support and morale.

Member Duties : VISTA will bring needed resources to a community that faces gentrification. The VISTA will recruit local organizations, businesses and neighbors to provide programming for our expanded Neighborhood Center. The implementation of these programs will increase community morale and provide individuals and families with tools for a better tomorrow. To bring resources to a community, we must first ask the community what they need and want. The VISTA will build relationships with the community and conduct a Needs Assessment; including individuals, youth and families. They will survey, review and analyze information collected. Once we know the needs of the community, we will be able to bring partners into the Center to provide resources (financial literacy, trade programs, resume assistance, exercise classes, food programs, etc.) The VISTA will cultivate partnerships with already existing organizations and businesses to ensure productivity and gather interest for adding Center programs.
