Stewards VISTA: Marys River Watershed Council
Marys River Watershed Council was formed in 1996 by a small grassroots group of concerned citizens, and over the past two decades, this small but effective 501(c)3 watershed nonprofit has made great strides within stream system restoration, upland prairie and savanna restoration, and environmental education in Corvallis, Oregon. The Marys River Watershed Council VISTA will help address the need for action to preserve and protect the Marys River and Mid-Willamette watershed while empowering members of the community through education and outreach efforts. With the help of the VISTA project, MRWC aims to educate community members on the issues our watershed faces and what they can do to help. Through resource development, volunteer coordination, environmental education, and community involvement, the VISTA will help create a network of resources for MRWC to inspire and support voluntary stewardship of the Marys River watershed. The VISTA will have the opportunity to serve while gaining a breadth of experience in 1) project planning, 2) grant writing, 3) environmental education, 4) community engagement, 5) scientific monitoring and restoration, 6) event organization, and 7) nonprofit administration.
