Access Art: Outreach and Community Engagement

Access Art is a youth-focused community arts organization that inspires personal success by providing a safe space for hands-on learning in a variety of artistic media combined with real life practice in civic engagement and valuable opportunities for leadership development. Our programs serve over 400 youth, parents and community members in Morrell Park and Edmondson Village every year in the following ways: 1. Access Art delivers the Youthlight Art and Media Program, an award winning, comprehensive out of school program to address the artistic, emotional, and cognitive development of youth between the ages of 7 and 18. 2. Access Art is a community schools lead partner in Morrell Park and works closely with Morrell Park Elementary Middle School through our Community School Coordinator to promote student achievement, connect parents to needed resources, and assist families to remove the barriers that keep students from attending school regularly. We are also part of the community schools strategy at Wildwood Elementary Middle and our relationships with these schools, in combination with our out-of-school programs, helps reduce truancy, supports youth to achieve success, and strengthens families. 3. Access Art leverages and coordinates resources, funding, and projects that support community enhancement through creativity. These projects beautify and improve the quality of life in the community through mural creation, vacant lot restoration, and neighborhood art projects

Member Duties : The VISTA member will build the capacity of Access Art by creating and implementing an outreach component into our target Baltimore City communities of Morrell Park and Edmonson Village. As a result of the VISTA member’s service we will strengthen our neighborhood connections, identify potential business and non-profit partners, recruit and manage volunteers for ongoing programmatic needs of the organization, and help with collecting neighborhood needs assessment data. These activities will better inform our programmatic strategies, support our education Initiatives and work towards healthy futures for community members in our target neighborhoods.
