Heart Program Family Resource Navigator
 
 
 
The Heart Program Family Resource Navigator will learn about or have knowledge of the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act and learn how it is implemented in a K-12 school district . The goal is to establish appropriate networks within our community to provide the essential services for families and children who are experiencing homelessness. Ability to navigate family issues in a cooperative, collaborative manner with school staff, family, and community organizations is essential. The Heart Program Family Resource Navigator connects families experiencing a housing crisis to needed community resources. Develops and maintains referring relationships with agencies providing housing support and community resources. Partners with the community to collect and organize needed tangible resources for families. Manages family assistance programs (e.g. resource closets, holiday assistance, food banks). Conducts home visits with students and families. Maintains necessary records ensuring confidentiality of students and their families, monitors program progress/outcomes, and prepares related reports. The Heart Program Family Resource Navigator is responsible for connecting families experiencing homelessness and housing instability with needed community resources in order to remove barriers to student enrollment, attendance, and academic achievement. Work is performed under the supervision of the district McKinney-Vento Liaison following both state and federal guidelines. Must have a valid driver's license and willingness to use district van/car. Specific abilities required to be successful in this role include: Ability to connect and relate to others in stressful situations; effectively communicate with marginalized and diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; prioritize workload; ask for help when needed and work as part of a team.

Member Duties : ¿ Attend all SST trainings and some service projects ¿ Keep accurate time sheets and track all hours for term of service ¿ Work directly with staff, students & families to remove barriers to educational access ¿ Maintain an on-site resource center and create a schedule for home visits (resource drop off) ¿ Provide emergency school pick/drop off for students without transportation ¿ Help students/families navigate community based services in a personalized way ¿ Demonstrate care and concern for students/families without judgment ¿ Check in with WVSD Heart Liaison daily for tasks, support and feedback ¿ Participate in position related professional development
