LPF Baltimore Expansion

Leveling the Playing Field (LPF) is a nonprofit organization that gives underprivileged children the opportunity to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of youth sports participation. LPF does this through the collection of used/excess sports equipment from schools, manufacturers, individual families, and others. After being inventoried and sorted at the LPF warehouse, the equipment is then redistributed to a school, sports league, or other organization serving a low-income community and placed into the hands of a child who cannot afford their own equipment. Established in Silver Spring in 2013, Leveling the Playing Field expanded to a Baltimore site in the Hampden area in early 2018. At the Collaborative Warehouse, LPF shares space and resources with five other nonprofits, including Bedtime in Box and the Maryland Book Bank. While LPF has been providing donations to programs in and around Baltimore since its establishment, our new site allows us to cultivate a sustainable operation within the greater Baltimore area - meaning that donations will directly help the local community. The overall goal of the AmeriCorps VISTA project is to maintain and expand collection, donation, and volunteer programs in Baltimore. The specific objectives of this role include: Work with the Program Manager to build a network of volunteers and collectors by reaching out to local schools, universities, youth leagues, manufacturers, etc. Assist in training volunteers and will demonstrate the inventorying and sorting processes Develop a volunteer manual Facilitate collection drives around the area Other operational tasks, as necessary
