SOTS - Mvskoke Nation Youth Services Summer Associates

Summer associates will implement a six module financial literacy course that covers topics such as: understanding your paycheck, credit and banking, check cashing, planning for college, and renting basics. The summer associates will be responsible for supervising financial literacy mobile labs that will be made available to approximately 500 youth ages 16-21. These mobile labs will be made available in eight districts of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation jurisdiction. Additionally, a one day life skills seminar will be offered in multiple locations to address physical and mental health topics of nutrition, drugs and alcohol and suicide prevention. There will also be a financial literacy module to increase soft skills and an interactive activity for the youth to build a resume that can be used for career and education goals. Each module of the financial literacy course has a pre and post test to assess the individual’s knowledge and skills gained based on the objectives of each component. The Federal Reserve Bank is providing access to this course to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. MNYS will be participating in a training on March 6th to gain a better understanding of each component. The one day life skills seminars will also assess the knowledge and skills gained through pre and posttests. The local Creek Indian Community centers, local libraries, and tribal college will be utilized to provide a space for the financial literacy mobile labs. The life skills seminars will be held at the tribal college and local career techs exposing the youth to various educational opportunities. All of these partners will contribute to the success of the project by providing a local space for the youth to meet. By having a local place to meet, youth with transportation issues will be accommodated. Each of these providers offers an opportunity for the youth to connect with local community resources.
