Maryland Coalition for Community Schools – Coalition Buildin

The Maryland Coalition for Community Schools (MD4CS) is dedicated to expanding the community school strategy around the state of Maryland and making sure that community schools investment is defined within Maryland’s revised funding formula, as proposed by the Kirwan Commission. A compelling body of research promotes utilizing a community school strategy to address barriers to learning created by concentrated poverty and entrenched opportunity gaps that contribute to disparities among student populations around academic, health, and social/emotional outcomes. With the increased capacity that an AmeriCorps VISTA member provides, this newly formed coalition will build a strong infrastructure and continue to (1) grow its membership (2) develop a strong infrastructure and (3) increase its statewide impact.
