Code in the Schools (CITS) is a Baltimore City non-profit that is committed to expanding access to quality computer science (CS) education programs to ensure that all Baltimore residents are prepared to be active members of the 21st century economy. We achieve this through fun and innovative in-school, after-school, and summer programming for predominantly under-resourced youth youth age 4-21, as well as professional development for educators throughout the region. In the last year, we served over 3,000 students are and set to serve hundreds more as we continue to grow. The VISTA assigned will help maintaining and executing programs at after-school and summer sites. This includes but is not limited to: student recruitment and retention; updating existing model to support participating 8th graders’ transition to continued study of CS in high school and assist in program evaluation and report writing. The responsibilities of this role also include any other necessary aspects of the project. Please visit https://www.codeintheschools.org/ for more information about our organization.
