Sunset Area Community Outreach and Service Coordinator

Renton Housing Authority (RHA) has provided affordable quality housing for 75 years along with connections to enhanced services for low income residents in Renton through strong partnerships with area service providers. RHA has received two HUD grants – Multi-Family Service Coordination and ROSS – which helped create partnerships with various service providers for resident referrals. Part of an eight-member VISTA team supported by a VISTA Leader. This VISTA project will take place in the City of Renton with a concentration in the Sunset Highlands neighborhood and build upon and expand resident services. The VISTA member will create more opportunities for underserved low-income households by connecting with local and regional service providers that will offer workforce development and healthcare resources. This will also be an opportunity for the VISTA member to expand community development skills and help improve the overall neighborhood. This VISTA project will provide support and access to workforce development and other skill building services to economically disadvantaged individuals. This will help move people out of poverty by creating pathways to employment, education, and social support networks. By supporting efforts to provide education and support, the VISTA member will help RHA build capacity to assist residents in achieving long-term economic security. The VISTA member will assist RHA in coordinating services that many affordable housing residents are lacking, including connecting people to job training and aging in place or other health care services. By connecting RHA’s residents to resources, they will have better opportunities to secure economic upward mobility and live self-sufficient lives. Renton is located on Lake Washington and has excellent parks with outdoor activities that include hiking, biking, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding along with outstanding access to public transportation to Downtown Seattle activities.
