CoF FSWCD Project Development Specialist VISTA

The Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District (FSWCD) is combating poverty by promoting local food security measures in the USDA designated “food desert” of South Fairbanks. The FSWCD is currently developing a vertical urban farming project modeled after the Seeds of Change program in Anchorage, AK. This program provides young adults that are experiencing homelessness with employment and life skills training, while growing fresh produce for the community. The Fairbanks vertical urban farm program seeks to provide similar services through a partnership with the Fairbanks Youth Advocates, Fairbanks Food Bank, and a NASA funded urban gardening project. The Project Development Specialist VISTA will help with the initiation phase of the project with activities that include: refining the scope of the project, establishing a project charter, developing a project funding plan, and assisting in community outreach for the project. This is a volunteer service position with a living allowance of $1,333 per month and an annual education award of $6,095 or cash stipend of $1,800.
