Skagit VISTA Success in Schools Coordinator

The goal of the Mount Vernon School District is to grow the number of Tiered Interventions in place at our schools and increase our partnerships with families and community organizations to support regular school attendance. The proposed project is to be of service to buildings in providing resources that can be used across all nine of our school sites and to provide direct service to students and families as appropriate. This would include gathering and providing data on attendance, assisting with a calendar of proposed interventions at Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3, and supporting systematic implementation of these Tiered Interventions. The project would also include partnering with the larger community to develop awareness, gain funding to benefit recognition programs, volunteer recruitment for targeted mentorship opportunities, and relationship development to connect families and students to community resources that address barriers to regular attendance (unresolved medical or mental health concerns, housing, transportation, etc.). This position is part of a 10-member VISTA team operated out of Community Action of Skagit County. Our mission is to foster and advocate for self-sufficiency among low-income people in Skagit County. The Skagit VISTA team helps achieve Community Action’s goal of helping people help themselves and each other by building infrastructure and capacity for programs that serve economically disadvantaged individuals across the county. This position will be provided with a living stipend of $1,025 per month and a choice of an education award of $6,095 or end of year stipend of $1800 after a completion of a complete service year. Our partner and host agency for this position is Mount Vernon School District.
