Come to Maine and experience the natural beauty and exciting outdoor opportunities provided by its distinct four seasons! Maine Campus Compact (MCC) is a statewide coalition of colleges and universities whose purpose is to further the public purposes and civic mission of higher education. MCC’s team of 10 VISTAs will develop programming that mobilizes college students to increase college aspirations in Maine’s K-12 youth. This position will be based at Bates College.

Member Duties : * Oversee the visits to campus of local K-12 partners. * Support and enhance current STEM programs in the local elementary schools, and on-campus STEM events designed for elementary youth. * Play a key role in managing Bates’ relationship with Lewiston Middle School, our “adopt-a-school” partner, with a focus on helping to bring the resources of the College—faculty and students from community-engaged learning courses, STEM student clubs, facilities—to bear on LMS science activities. * Work with Bates faculty and staff to help design a “near-peer” mentor program, in which first-generation students and students of color from Bates act as mentors for high school students interested in STEM. * Engage with the residence life staff as well as Bates student clubs and organizations through the Student Affairs Office to maximize the engagement of the student body in aspirations efforts.
