Community Engagement Coordinator VISTA

United Way of El Paso County's mission is to improve the lives of El Paso families through the caring power of community. The proposed VISTA project aligns with the Economic Opportunity, Education and Healthy Futures focus areas. The VISTA project will seek to increase financial stability, housing-related assistance for economically disadvantaged families, provide employment-related assistance, increase student success, and increase awareness of health care coverage options to gain access to preventive and primary health care services in underserved communities. More than 2,000 low-income families will benefit from the Pathways to Success El Paso VISTA project. Seven VISTA members will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as recruiting and training volunteers, leadership development, project management and logistics, community data analysis and increasing program sustainability, over the course of 3 years.

Member Duties : United Way of El Paso County has formed a partnership with the Office of the County Judge to increase the entity’s capacity in community outreach and volunteerism. To do this, UWEPC seeks an AmeriCorps VISTA to coordinate efforts to increase volunteerism within County staff and the community as a whole. As poverty and homelessness are large issues within the El Paso community, and specifically in outlying areas of the County, this VISTA will focus on harnessing the power of volunteers to address this issue. The VISTA will also ensure that economically challenged families receive the education/training and career development support they need for homeless prevention, that all residents have access to affordable healthcare, to support events that establish social and physical environments promoting good health, and facilitate care for individuals entering the community by enabling transportation, food, shelter and any other type of aid.
