SMC VISTA - Alameda Point Collaborative & SMC

The Saint Mary’s College of California (SMC) AmeriCorps VISTA Program aims to strengthen partnerships between higher education and nonprofit agencies in an effort to alleviate poverty and create positive social change. We host a multi-campus program in which a cohort of VISTA Members serve at nonprofit agencies and partnering higher education institutions. Our VISTAs endeavor to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of nonprofit agencies that provide education services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities, in part by leveraging resources from higher education institutions. As a VISTA in our program, you will serve 4 days per week at a nonprofit agency and 1 day per week at a partnering higher education institution. You will be connected with a cohort of VISTAs as well as a network of our program alumni. Your specific responsibilities at each service site are unique, but all of our VISTA assignments have three focus areas: (1) Capacity Building - Reinforce the long-term efficacy and/or efficiency of the nonprofit/public agency with a specific sustainable project that should continue to benefit the agency after VISTA service. See below for more information on this specific project. (2) Campus Liaison - Support and coordinate partnerships between the nonprofit agency and higher education institution. (3) Volunteer Infrastructure - Strengthen volunteer management infrastructure at the nonprofit organization agency and/or higher education institution.
