Garden Programming and Partnerships Coordinator

The Garden Programming and Partnerships Coordinator (Coordinator) participates in a yearlong term of service (1,700 hours) providing capacity-building services in support of Plant the Seed’s mission to inspire and empower young people through garden-based learning — connecting them to their food, the earth, their education, and one another. PtS serves more than 1,300 young people weekly in school and community settings through partnerships with seven public schools and five public libraries. PtS believes that everyone has a right to fresh, affordable, culturally-relevant foods and that young people are capable of effecting meaningful change in their diet, lives, and communities. PtS sees sowing, preparing and sharing food as a powerful tool for a lasting education, cross-cultural conversations and growing together in community. This member supports garden programming, develops facilitator training resources, and supports program partnership development, delivers garden lessons and workshops, maintains garden sites, engages families and volunteers, develops program content for communications such as newsletters and social media, and supports program evaluation. Training for any technical skills required to perform successfully in this position will be provided, including training for facilitating garden lessons and workshops, maintaining garden spaces and reporting requirements. Service activities take place both indoors and outdoors, and some evenings and weekends are required. The Hands On Nashville AmeriCorps Program engages civic-minded individuals in yearlong terms of public service. AmeriCorps members are part of a 17-person cohort that receive skills training, professional development, and networking opportunities through a partnership between HON and participating AmeriCorps Program agencies. HON does not discriminate based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, or other factors which deny the essential humanity of all people.
