Filled - Education, and Community Engagement Coordinator

The Outreach, Education and Community Engagement Coordinator (Coordinator) participates in a year-long term of AmeriCorps service (1,700 hours) supporting Harpeth Conservancy (HC), a science-based conservation organization whose mission is to restore and protect clean water and healthy ecosystems for rivers in Tennessee championed by the people who live here. The State Scenic Harpeth River is among the unique river systems of the Southeast, which contain some of the greatest varieties of aquatic life in the world. The communities along the Harpeth River and around Middle Tennessee are among the fastest growing in the nation, and the Harpeth is a popular recreation destination. HC seeks an enthusiastic team member who enjoys meeting people and helping creative communication efforts take off. The Coordinator increases community involvement and public awareness through education-oriented events, designs creative marketing and social media campaigns with businesses and other partners, and expands outreach opportunities with established popular festivals/events. The Coordinator also supports HC’s annual Nashville’s Wild and Scenic Film Festival, which inspires people to reduce their environmental footprint, protect wildlife, and restore streams. This position will help HC reach rapidly growing numbers of tourists and residents, encouraging them to realize how incredibly unique the natural world is in this area and what simple actions they can take to make a difference. The Hands On Nashville AmeriCorps Program engages civic-minded individuals in yearlong terms of public service. AmeriCorps members are part of a 17-person cohort that receive skills training, professional development, and networking opportunities through a partnership between HON and participating AmeriCorps Program agencies. HON does not discriminate based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, or other factors which deny the essential humanity of all people.
