Filled - Citizen Science & Volunteer Restoration Coordinator

The Citizen Science and Volunteer Restoration Project Coordinator (Coordinator) participates in a yearlong term of AmeriCorps service (1,700 hours) supporting Harpeth Conservancy (HC), a science-based conservation organization whose mission is to restore and protect clean water and healthy ecosystems for rivers in Tennessee, championed by the people who live here. The State Scenic Harpeth River is among the unique river systems of the Southeast, which contain some of the greatest varieties of aquatic life in the world. The communities along the Harpeth River and around Middle Tennessee are among the fastest growing in the nation, and the Harpeth is a popular recreation destination. The Coordinator expands HC’s Citizen Science efforts using technology tools such as the Water Reporter app to increase public engagement in reporting water-quality problems. These efforts help the community resolve conditions such as trash, erosion, or poor water quality. The Coordinator supports HC’s Be River Responsible program and Don’t Be Crappie campaign, which reduces waste in local waterways and encourages responsible recreation. HC seeks an enthusiastic Coordinator with a background in environmental studies who enjoys reaching out to people, coordinating volunteer events, and determining how best to communicate what efforts people can take that will make a difference. The Hands On Nashville AmeriCorps Program engages civic-minded individuals in yearlong terms of public service. AmeriCorps members are part of a 17-person cohort that receive skills training, professional development, and networking opportunities through a partnership between HON and participating AmeriCorps Program agencies. HON does not discriminate based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, or other factors which deny the essential humanity of all people.
