Urban Forestry Coordinator

The Urban Forestry Coordinator (Coordinator) participates in a yearlong term of AmeriCorps service (1,700 hours) to support the Cumberland River Compact’s (CRC) urban forestry program activities, including tree and rain garden site selection, maintenance route scheduling, GIS mapping of existing and future tree sites, and volunteer management. The Coordinator expands CRC’s capacity to care for urban trees and greenscapes and helps the agency maintain up-to-date data and resources, particularly those available to area residents. CRC works in areas that need it by identifying and prioritizing areas with higher surface temperatures, lower permeable areas, higher rates of upper respiratory related hospitalizations, and lower canopy coverage. Without maintenance, silviculture planning, and volunteer coordination, newly planted tree survival drops to roughly 60%. The Coordinator provides the support needed to grow and maintain programs designed to provide long-term forestry support for Nashville. At the end of the term, the member will have developed project management, event and volunteer coordination, arboriculture, horticulture, and silviculture skills. Ideal experience includes working outdoors around trees, plants, and heavy equipment, as well as experience with youth and adult volunteers. CRC seeks a service member who is interested in playing a vital role in building forestry programs that encompass strategic planning and support environmental justice initiatives. The Hands On Nashville AmeriCorps Program engages civic-minded individuals in yearlong terms of public service. AmeriCorps members are part of a 17-person cohort that receive skills training, professional development, and networking opportunities through a partnership between HON and participating AmeriCorps Program agencies. HON does not discriminate based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, or other factors which deny the essential humanity of all people.
